How much power does the new Aprilia RS660 make?
The forward-facing 660cc parallel twin motor is Euro5 compliant and is said to be built around the concept and dimensions of the front two cylinders of the 1100cc V4 in Aprilia’s Tuono and RSV4. This design is claimed to transmit the minimum amount of heat to the rider, while creating the space for a slim and lightweight chassis.
Making 98bhp (74kW), it’s a DOHC engine with a 270° crank that the Italian engineers say is a record power output for a parallel twin of this capacity.
What kind of chassis does the Aprilia RS660 have?
The new chassis is aluminium, as is the asymmetric swingarm, which pivots directly from the load-bearing engine. The rear shock is also a linkage-free design, while the steering is said to be stable on road and track, with a good turning circle for daily use.
We’ll have to wait until we can get the first review of the Aprilia RS660 in the coming months to know how it really handles, but if it carries more than just the moniker of the RS250 we remember so fondly, this thing – with its 41mm upside-down Kayaba forks, 320mm discs and radially-mounted and operated Brembo brakes – promises to be one of the most exciting bikes of 2020.
